1. General Overview

Bee's Books operates out of Gqeberha, Eastern Cape, South Africa. These terms govern your use of our site and the purchase of any goods. We reserve the right to update, change, or replace any part of these Terms of Service at any time without prior notice.

2. Second-Hand Goods & Condition Grading

The vast majority of our inventory consists of second-hand, rare, and vintage books.

• Condition: We grade our books as accurately as possible (e.g., Brand New, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor/Reading Copy). However, condition grading is inherently subjective. By purchasing second-hand items, you acknowledge that books may exhibit signs of age, previous ownership signatures, minor annotations, shelf wear, or be ex-library copies bearing typical library stamps, card pockets, and protective plastic sleeves.
• "As Is" Sales: All books in our inventory, without exception, are sold strictly "as is." Our descriptions and photographs serve as the official and final record of the item's condition.

3. Inventory, Cart Reservations & Pricing Errors

• No Cart Reservations: Placing a one-of-a-kind book in your cart does not reserve it. An item is only secured once checkout is successfully completed and payment is processed.
• Inventory Collisions: Because we sell unique single-copy items, there is a rare possibility that an item may sell out while you are completing checkout. In the event of an inventory conflict or out-of-stock error, we will issue a full, immediate refund.
• Pricing Errors: We reserve the right to cancel any orders placed for items listed at an incorrect price due to typographical or system errors, regardless of whether the order has been confirmed and paid for. In such cases, a full refund will be provided.

4. Payments & Ownership

All payments are processed securely via PayFast. Bee's Books does not hold or store any payment card information. Ownership of the goods transfers to you only once we have received full and cleared payment.

5. Shipping & Risk of Loss

• Dispatch & Delays: We carefully package all books to prevent transit damage. While we strive to dispatch orders promptly, delivery timelines are estimates. We are not liable for delays caused by third-party couriers, strikes, or natural events.
• Risk of Loss: The risk of loss and title for items purchased pass to you upon our delivery to the courier carrier. Please ensure your delivery address is accurate, as we cannot be held responsible for parcels delivered to incorrect addresses provided by the customer.

6. Returns & Refunds

Due to the unique and pre-owned nature of our inventory, all sales are considered final.

• Strict Return Policy: We do not accept returns, exchanges, or offer refunds for "buyer's remorse" or subjective disagreements regarding a book's condition grading.
• Exceptions: A return will only be considered in the highly unlikely event of a gross misrepresentation on our part (e.g., dispatching the completely wrong title). If this occurs, you must contact us within 7 days of receipt. The item must be returned in the exact condition it was dispatched before a refund is issued.
• Return Shipping: The customer is responsible for the cost of return shipping unless the return is due to a gross misrepresentation of the item on our part or the wrong item was sent.
• Refund Processing: Refunds will be processed within 14 days of receiving and inspecting the returned item.

At Bee's Books, we deal primarily in second-hand, vintage, and rare physical media. Because of the unique nature of our inventory, our return policy is exceptionally strict to protect the integrity of the books and ensure fairness to all our readers.

1. All Sales Are Final

We do not accept returns, process exchanges, or offer refunds for "buyer's remorse" or subjective disagreements regarding a book's condition. By purchasing a second-hand item, you accept that it may exhibit typical signs of age, shelf wear, or previous ownership (including library markings). Our descriptions and photographs serve as the final record of condition.

2. Exceptions for Gross Misrepresentation

A return will only be considered in the highly unlikely event of a gross misrepresentation on our part—for example, if we dispatch an entirely incorrect title or a book with severe, unlisted structural damage.

• 7-Day Window: You must contact us at hello@beesbooks.co.za within 7 days of receiving your parcel to report the error.
• Condition Requirement: The item must be returned to us in the exact condition it was dispatched.

3. Return Shipping Costs

The customer is strictly responsible for the cost of return shipping, unless the return is approved because of a gross misrepresentation on our part or the wrong item was sent (in which case Bee's Books covers the cost).

4. Refund Processing

Once your returned item is received at our Gqeberha location, it will be inspected by our team. Approved refunds will be processed back to your original payment method (via PayFast) within 14 days of us receiving and verifying the item.

At Bee's Books, we believe every book has a history, and sometimes that history leaves a few marks. We grade our inventory strictly and conservatively so you know exactly what you are pulling out of the shipping box.

Here is how we classify our volumes:

Brand New / Fine / As New

A flawless copy. It looks exactly as it did the day it rolled off the printing press. While it may have been carefully read, it was treated with respect and was not damaged in the process. Expect no creases, no marks, and a crisp, tight spine.

Very Good (VG)

A lovingly cared-for book that shows only the slightest signs of being read. The spine remains unbroken, and the pages are clean. It may have a minor scuff on the cover or a very neat, small previous owner's signature on the inside title page.

Good (G)

The standard workhorse of the second-hand book world! A "Good" book has lived a full life and been enjoyed. You will find typical shelf wear, a creased spine, or some natural yellowing and "foxing" (age spots) which can appear anywhere throughout the book, not just on the page edges. It is 100% structurally sound and ready for its next reader.

Fair (F)

A true survivor. This book is a bit battered on the outside and may have bumped corners, noticeable rubbing, or slightly loose hinges. You might find some underlining or notes in the margins. It won’t win any beauty contests, but every word is perfectly readable.

Poor / Reading Copy

We rarely stock books in this condition unless it is an exceptionally rare or out-of-print title. Expect heavy wear, potential staining, or missing blank endpapers. The text itself is fully intact for reading purposes.

Ex-Library Books

Many wonderful, out-of-print books are rescued from library circulations. If a book is marked as Ex-Library, it will bear the honorable battle scars of public service. You should expect typical library ink stamps, barcode stickers, card pockets on the inside covers, and often a protective plastic sleeve glued over the dust jacket. We ensure these are structurally solid, but they will proudly look the part of a library book.

Our Quality Guarantee

No matter the grade, we have strict baseline standards. We will never sell books containing mold, nor will we sell books with noticeably missing text pages. If a volume falls below this standard, it simply does not make it onto our digital shelves.
